king of the 'dumbies'
Biz Markie is to the music industry as Kevin Bacon is to film.

Who is biz markie? And why would I care about kevin bacon?

Who is biz markie?

Sigh. Aside from the absolute blasphemy of that question itself...

The Kevin Bacon game. 6 degrees.

Try playing it with the Biz. He's fucking EVERYWHERE.

Because you posed that question, Mahlon just ranted on the phone to me. Bastard!

Who is Biz Markie? WHO IS BIZ MARKIE? You call yourself gangsta without recognizing the greatest beatboxer of all time? You've failed me son.
23rd-May-2005 05:42 pm (UTC) - greatest beatboxer?!
i think not! i've got one deceased fat boy and doug e. fresh both better than biz. and that's biz at his *prime*. these days, justin timberlake is a better beatboxer, while biz is busy with the snapple lady at fat camp on VH1.

I'm going to have to go out on a limb here and say that Rahzel is currently the greatest beatboxer. The Biz is just rad on a totally separate level. His beatboxing skills can only be attributed to a large and oddly shaped mouth.

Unfortunately, the WSJ is behind a pay wall, but this thread reminded me of this column from the "Numbers Guy":

Does Rap Estimate Hold Up?
May 5, 2005

It's an article of faith that 70% to 80% of those who buy rap music are white. But is this bit of music-industry conventional wisdom a good estimate?

Clearly, as this thread proves, that estimate is low.
